Social drivers of health (SDOH) largely impact communities that are marginalized because they are most often burdened by their negative effects. Research shows that health care access for migratory and seasonal agricultural workers (MSAWs) are disproportionately affected by SDOH including workplace harassment/sexual assault and intimate partner violence (IPV). This presentation will provide an overview of the importance of screening for SDOH to identify key barriers to care and feature health center innovative screening techniques and workflows for specific SDOH factors amongst MSAW populations. The panel willalso share existing tools and resources to address SDOH, including a new safety card tool on IPV.
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand the impact of SDOH factors, including workplace sexual assault/harassment and IPV, on
MSAW health.
Identify SDOH factors and implement SDOH screening tools into their health center workflows.
Implement strategies to improve how a health center identifies and responds to SDOH needs, including IPV, workplace assault, and human trafficking, to support patient safety and improve health outcomes.
