Leveraging Electronic Health Records to Promote Improved Care, Patient Safety and Privacy

Description: As health center staff increasingly identify and document IPV/HT in medical records, some electronic health record (EHR) platforms are embedding prompts, model workflows, and patient privacy and confidentiality recommendations into their systems. They are also linking to or using social referral platforms to facilitate referrals. This webinar will summarize practice recommendations on how to request consent from survivors during documentation and before conducting any data sharing on referral platforms. Additionally, we will share takeaways on smart tool development and availability from leading EHR platforms and highlight best practices to ensure patient privacy and safety while adhering to CURES Act regulations.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of this webinar participants will…
1. Understand the support that EHRs can provide in improving care and addressing IPV and HT, with particular attention to patient privacy and safety.
2. Apply strategies for documenting IPV and HT that adhere to the CURES Act.
3. Utilize recommendations for health center staff to implement, tailor, and use electronic tools to connect patients with community-based services for domestic violence (DV) and HT, including measures to protect patient and survivor confidentiality.
